Eye Contact….

One of the traits behind my autism diagnosis is my lack of eye contact when in conversation. This is a problem that began in childhood and continues to this day.

For example, I bumped into someone I knew the other day and we had a conversation. I could sense that the eye contact wasn’t there from me, this as I said is a trait of autism, but it betrays nerves and diffidence around people, even people I know.

That’s why my circle of friends is quite small. Not being to communicate effectively via my eyes is a real let down. It’s certainly a case of the eyes not having it. It’s something I won’t be able to rectify, if at all. So if you ever are lucky or unlucky enough to meet me and engage me in conversation, our eyes won’t meet very often.
