Well you live and learn. I found out the origin of Mothering Sunday the other day. It’s not, as people believe, to celebrate the difficult job of motherhood around the world.
In fact it goes back to Roman Catholicism, where a person would attend their “mother church”, the one they go to all the time. Down the years, the context has changed and now in this commercial world, we celebrate motherhood with cards, flowers and chocolates.
I never knew this until someone told me the other day, well now I know the origins of Mothering Sunday! And so do you.
